Redlining is so widespread, and with so many institutions being complicit, including Local, State and Federal Government agencies, it will be difficult to tackle this issue. I think the only true way to eliminate redlining is to pour the same dollars into housing in historically redlined areas as was done for the thousands of suburban areas across the country. The creation of affordable housing stock in these redlined areas I believe will result in a natural desegregation of the area.
To stave off gentrification, mortgages must be structured so that current residents aren’t priced out and displaced from the area.
